Importância do diploma
Temos várias discussões sobre esse assunto que sempre será polêmico.
Bem, eu sempre falo que o diploma não é importante e vem logo uma enxurrada de respostas, pessoas que concordam outras que discordam então a discussão pega fogo e no final como sempre nada é decidido.
Discussões deste tipo nunca levam a nada, isso sabemos. Mas para não ficar uma imagem que o Handerson é contra as faculdades do mundo bla bla, que normalmente essas pessoas que discordam e não tem argumentos para debater acabam me acusando e gerando essa imagem, venho então tentar ser mais claro sobre essa opinião que tenho e é minha. A idéia do post é apenas tentar expor com mais clareza o que eu acho realmente.
Vamos primeiro entender porque eu acho que um profissional deve ter uma faculdade, afinal eu estou cursando (Ciências da Computação), só tranquei porque minha empresa está consumindo muito meu tempo, mas em breve vou voltar.
Então vamos aos pontos positivos que acho mais importante na faculdade:
1. Network com professores.
Durante toda a sua formação você com certeza irá passar por vários tipos de professores, os bons, os ruins, mas sempre terá um professor que irá agregar algum valor para você.
Eu já tive a honra de ter aula e trabalhar na mesma empresa e no mesmo projeto de igual para igual com alguns professores que estudei.
2. Troca de conhecimentos e amizades;
Com o passar dos semestres você vai conhecendo vários tipos de perfis de alunos, alguns você já saca de cara que estão lá apenas para agradar o pai ou achando que TI da muita grana ;), outros que pasmem, odeiam programar e por ai vai.
O que importa são aqueles que realmente querem algo, aqueles que você irá compartilhar conhecimento, ira discutir idéias, debater etc.
E claro temos aqueles que acabam virando nossos amigos.
3. Matérias interessantes;
Sim temos sim matérias interessantes, cadeiras de compiladores, computação gráfica (eu adorei mesmo) e várias outras.
Agora sendo bem sincero e depois de muito tempo no mercado e faltando apenas dois semestres (caso eu faça claro) para a minha formatura fico triste em dizer que: -Não usei nem 40% do que eu vi na faculdade e ainda acho que foi muito.
E olha que já fiz várias cadeiras relacionadas diretamente com a minha área que é desenvolvimento e arquitetura.
Eu já trabalhei em vários tipos de projetos, projetos de métricas, intranets, pontos eletrônicos, financeiros, contábil, seguradoras, ERPs variados, móbile, jogos etc e não lembro de nada útil que vi na faculdade que utilizei nos projetos.
Agora claro, a base estava sim na grade da faculdade, mas eu pergunto, poxa me dedicar como me dediquei na faculdade para aprender a base ?
De quem é a culpa ?
Da faculdade ?
Acho que nem tanto, pois os professores dela são praticamente os mesmos das outras.
Da grade ?
Acho que em partes. Pois a grade de TI ainda esta um pouco defasada principalmente na parte de gerencia e analise de sistema. Mesmo que tendo alguns professores que buscam se atualizar mais do que os outros.
Mas o bacana que algumas como a minha, me propiciou a ter alguns mini-cursos bem focados no que eu queria, assim como algumas palestras e isso foi bom pra mim, mas a grade em si eu ainda acho que deixa a desejar.
Mas não podemos querer que a grade se adapte ao mercado correto ? Então acho que ficamos no empate aqui.
4. Instigar o conhecimento;
Uma coisa que gosto na faculdade é que ela é muito diferente de um colégio, pois as aulas são mais “pesadas”. Na aula “comum” o professor normalmente já te dá tudo “mastigado” para poder estudar, já na faculdade isso é muito raro, o professor às vezes passa os tópicos e dar a explicação dele normalmente, mas se o conteúdo que ele está passando necessitar de conhecimentos por exemplo em uma linguagem que você nunca viu, problema seu ;).
Isso é muito bom, pois vai me obrigar a estudar aquela nova linguagem, eu realmente adoro isso. Alguns “alunos” não percebem como isso é bom e ficam reclamando, mas paciência.
Mas será que eu poderia ter essa sede sem precisar freqüentar uma faculdade ?
Claro que sim, eu lembro que uma vez fui tentar entender como o Quake foi feito, pegando e lendo todo o seu código, que foi feito em C e C++ (se não me falhe a memória), detalhe tinha entre 14 e 15 anos.
Então cada um é cada um correto, tem gente que já vem de muito tempo a vontade de trabalhar na área de TI, essa paixão pelo seu trabalho, esse dom/vocação, já outros vão aprendendo a ter essa vontade com o tempo.
Mas acho que a faculdade exercita isso de uma maneira mais acadêmica e dependo do ponto de vista pode ser bom ou ruim. Eu gosto.
5. Trabalho em equipe;
Acho que esse é um dos principais pontos positivos de se fazer uma faculdade. Trabalhar em equipe sempre é bom para estimular seu lado social e de companheirismo, sem falar que ainda pode estimular para alguns o lado “líder de ser” ;).
Participar de um bom trabalho de faculdade onde envolva vários colegas é muito bacana, pena que às vezes aparece àquele cara que só quer colocar o nome, mas é outro assunto.
Agora podemos ter esse trabalho em equipe sem fazer a faculdade ?
Sim podemos, não é a mesma coisa, mas podemos sim, com projetos open sources etc. Mas acreditem não é a mesma coisa do trabalho da faculdade.
6. Conhecimento;
É claro que iremos absorver algum conhecimento na faculdade. Mas claro que se soubermos aproveitar bem as aulas e claro a faculdade. Conheço vários que passam de ano utilizando meios não muito aconselháveis (pescas etc) .

Bem até agora só falei coisas boas sobre a faculdade. Resolvi fazer esses parágrafos para aqueles que não entendem ou não querem entender que eu não sou contra fazer faculdade, então eu estou agora falando, façam faculdade 😉 é muito bacana.
Mas agora vamos ao assunto que eu realmente quero falar e é o precursor disso tudo.
Diploma é importante ou não ?
Primeiro de cara posso responder que sim, você deve fazer faculdade e ter um diploma.
Mas ele não terá a importância que você acha que ele tem.
Faculdade nunca foi e nunca vai ser um meio que irá garantir que aquele aluno realmente é competente ou é um bom profissional.
Sim, temos faculdades que o aluno realmente tem que saber muito para passar, mas o mérito não é da faculdade e sim do aluno, já não entra na nossa discussão ou entra dependendo do ponto de vista.
O problema é que existem pessoas que se escondem atrás de um diploma, achando que são os “mestres do universo” e isso ao meu ver é completamente imbecil desnecessário e sem noção.
Conheço vários profissionais formados e mestres que realmente não são esses super mestres do universo, são profissionais que se esconderam atrás de seus canudos e ali ficaram mortos e inertes e totalmente desatualizados. Pessoas que não tem a capacidade de “aprender” e pesquisar, simplesmente porque se acomodaram ou confiam no canudo de papel.
Um exemplo é um mestre que conheço que é desenvolvedor e não sabe desenvolver, não sabe criar um algoritmo, e não importa a linguagem, se vê na frente de um problema e não sabe como resolvê-lo pelo simples fato da incompetência.
E temos um estagiário que resolveu o problema.
E com certeza você deve ter aquele colega formado que não sabe NADA. Eu mesmo poderia passar dias citando situações com esses caras.
Então pergunto, o diploma não era para garantir que esse profissional soubesse resolver pelo menos problemas básicos ou problemas que a faculdade (curso) dele tem por objetivo ?
É culpa é da faculdade ? Ah me poupe, sempre é culpa do professor quando o aluno não sabe.
Eu tenho o seguinte pensamento:
Por pior que a faculdade seja, é obrigação do aluno estudar e se informar, ele não deve depender da faculdade para adquirir conhecimento.
Emprego
Estou agora ocupando dois lados do “balcão” o de empregador e o de empregado. Como empregado tenho alguns anos de experiência e SEMPRE vi algo que me deixava confuso, principalmente no início de minha carreira.
Sempre via profissionais que não eram formados disputando de igual para igual com vários profissionais formados e isso me intrigava, pois eu tinha o pensamento retrógado de que se o cara é formado ele é um Deus e só outro Deus poderia matá-lo.
E eu via um moleque (mas do que eu) “detonar” um cara formado e ficava me perguntado como ?
O que quero dizer é que o diploma não vai garantir nada, sempre vamos ter profissionais formados excelentes assim como profissionais formados péssimos. Achar que “ganhando” o diploma você é um Deus é no mínimo um pensamento imbecil.
Como empregador, com certeza vou dar prioridade para o profissional que seja safo, não importando se ele é formado ou não, não me interessa se você é Dr. e formado em Boston, quero saber se você é safo, se você aprende rápido, se consegue diante de um problema buscar a solução mais adequada para ele e da maneira mais simples e pragmática e tudo isso mantendo a qualidade, se tiver isso você está dentro.
Chegar pra mim e já ir mostrando certificações e diplomas não vai me impressionar, só vai me dizer que você passou muito tempo decorando testes killers para fazer as certificações e que passou muito tempo ou parte dele fora do mercado para concluir seus diplomas.
O profissional que se esconde atrás de um diploma para garantir seu emprego, para mim é deprimente e humilhante, mas cada um sabe viver como quer.
Discussões
Esse assunto por ser polêmico gera várias discussões e o que me faz odiar em participar de algumas delas é o simples fato que os argumentos são sempre os mesmos e são sempre argumentos fracos.
“Você gostaria de ser operado por um médico que não seja formado ?”
Primeiro esse argumento é um dos mais utilizados e a meu ver o mais sem fundamento, vamos alguns fatos.
Ser formado ou não, em momento algum vai garantir que isso ou isso não aconteça. Então já mata de cara.
Outra é que a nossa área é um pouco diferente das áreas de saúde não concorda ?
E dizer que podemos fazer um sistema que vai cuidar da vida de uma pessoa é um argumento ridículo, e mesmo que seja válido o que irá garantir que o diploma irá fazer com o que você faça um sistema perfeito ? Por favor.
Então o cara vai e fala algo como o que cito abaixo:
“Tu confia em um médico sem CRM ?”
Esse argumento é puts, sem palavras. Primeiro estamos vendo que além do diploma o cara confia em um conselho.
Pois bem, o médico comete um erro e amputa a minha perna, legal vou no CRM e ele irá me da uma perna nova ?
Ah mas vou ter justiça, ele irá ser preso ou não irá mais exercer a função de médico, bacana, mas sabe, eu queira mesmo era a minha perna.
Nenhum diploma ou conselho irá garantir que não haverá falhas e se houverem não tem como voltar no tempo.
Bem e por ai vai, observe que em qualquer discussão sobre o assunto esses caras normalmente não tem argumentos válidos para defender a sua idéia que se você tem um diploma você é um Deus e eu repito não é.
Então o cara normalmente tenta deturpar o que você comentou, dizendo que você não acha o diploma importante, que ele não vale nada etc.
Para eles vou repetir se é que não ficou claro.
Diploma é importante sim, mas NUNCA vai definir se o profissional tem um bom conhecimento e é competente. Isso o diploma NUNCA vai dizer.
Por esse simples motivo eu digo que o diploma não é tão importante assim, mas você precisa ter, para satisfazer algumas empresas da sociedade, mas NUNCA confie que ele irá medir a sua capacidade.
Conclusão
Fazer uma faculdade é muito importante pelos motivos que eu passei e outros que temos por ai. Eu realmente indico que você faça uma e aproveite cada aula e cada momento dela.
Agora não ache que fazer uma faculdade ou possuir um diploma irá te fazer um profissional competente ou um super profissional, pois NÃO VAI.
Não ache que um diploma irá decidir seu futuro e isso não quer dizer que você não deve ter um diploma.
Mas observe que as empresas estão mudando, as áreas mais interessantes a meu ver vem de empresas inovadoras, onde temos vários desafios interessantes e elas não querem saber do seu diploma, elas querem um profissional BOM e não um canudo e o canudo não define se um profissional é bom, quem achar isso é um imbecil uma pessoa mal informada.
Quando eu me formar (se Deus e o tempo deixar rsrsr) vou guardar meu diploma como uma lembrança dos amigos que fiz e dos momentos divertidos que vivi na faculdade e não vou usá-lo para justificar o meu salário como alguns o fazem, pois o que irá justificar meu salário é a minha capacidade e competência do bom profissional que procuro ser e isso o diploma não pode provar e nem me ajudar e é com isso que venho sustentando meus filhos e a mim.
Então para finalizar, parem de ficar dizendo que acho a faculdade inútil, parem de usar argumentos idiotas e parem de se esconderem atrás dos seus diplomas e sejam profissionais de verdade e não papeis enrolados.
